Wat verstaan we onder verticaal groen? • “Verticaal groen is het resultaat van het vergroenen van
verticale oppervlakken met planten; danwel wortelend in de ondergrond, het oppervlak zelf of in “plantenbakken” bevestigd aan het oppervlak.

De “eigenschappen” van vegetatie…
• Meeste klimmers zijn van nature te vinden langs de rand van bossen. Dit betekent veel licht, vochtige grond en lucht maar ook wortelruimte. • In Centraal Europa zijn er maar enkele inheemse klimmers zoals: Klimop (Hedera), Kamperfoelie (Lonicera), Clematis (Ranunculaceae), en de klimroos. • De meeste andere hebben hun oorsprong in Noord America of Azie, en de meeste hebben een klimhulp nodig. • Grondgebonden systemen zijn erg eenvoudig; Nietgrondgebonden systemen met een tekort aan wortelruimte, hebben een technische kennis nodig om weerstand te bieden tegen vorst, droogte en droge lucht.
