Keyword: Writing, Brainstorming, Descriptive text, Action research Writing is one of the skills which must be taught to Senior High School students as one of the teaching and learning activities in class. It is clearly noted in KTSP curriculum that objective of teaching English in Junior High School does not only teach vocabulary and grammar or introduces a new dialog with a certain topic, but also impresses on discourse level. Most of the students felt that writing is boring and difficult because process of writing consuming time. A teacher must apply some media to develop the material and make them more active and interest in class. Brainstorming is one of the alternative media that can be used in teaching English. Brainstorming gives more opportunities to students to express everything in their mind by written. In this research, the writer uses brainstorming as a teaching media in teaching writing English. The purpose of this research is to improve student’s skill in writing descriptive text for the eighth grade students of MTs NU MafatihulUlum Kudus in academic the year 2013/2014. The writer conducted classroom action research to solve the research problem. The research is conducted in MTs NU MafatihulUlum Kudus in the academic year 2013/2014, especially in eighth grade students. The number of students in this research is 25students. The writer uses descriptive text as object the research. The average score percentage of the students’ writing skill in descriptive text in cycle 1 is 78, 81%. In cycle II, the average score percentage of the students’ writing skill in descriptive text is 81,65%. So, there is an increasing of the average score percentage of the students’ writing skill in every cycle. Beside, the students and teacher’s more active in teaching learning process and the students’ achievement in writing descriptive text is improved. Brainstorming makes easier for them to product ideas in their mind. They become more enthusiastic in the class. They could explore their idea freely when they develop the topic and clue that teacher given. The writer can conclude that the use Brainstorming can improve students’ skill in writing descriptive text in the eighth grade students of MTs NU Mafatihul Kudus in academic year 2013/2014.

Kata kunci: Menulis, Brainstorming, Teks Descriptive, Tindakan Kelas Menulis adalah salah satu kemampuan yang harusdipelajariolehsiswa madrasah tsanawiyah sebagai salah satu kegiatan belajar mengajar dikelas. Ini jelas tertera dikurikulum KTSP bahwa objek dalam pengajaran bahasa inggris di MTs tidak hanya mengajar kosakata dan susunan kata atau memperkenalkan teks baru dengan topic tertentu, tetapi juga ditekankan pada tingkat pembuatan teks. Kebanyakan para siswa merasa bahwa menulis membosankan dan sulit karena menghabiskan banyak waktu. Sebagai seorang guru harus menerapkan berbagai media untuk mengembakan materi dalam membuat siswa lebih aktif dan tertarik di kelas. Brainstorming adalah salah satu alternative media pengajaran bahasa inggris, tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan teks menulis descriptive teks untuk kelas delapan MTs NU Mafatihul Ulum Kudus tahun 2013/2014. Penulis melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas untuk memecahkan masalah di kelas. Penelitian ini di laksanakan di MTs NU Mafatihul Ulum Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014, khususnya dikelas delapan. Jumlah siswa dalam penelitian ini adalah 25 siswa. Penulis memilih descriptive teks sebagai objek penelitian. Nilai rata-rata kemampuan menulis teks descriptive di siklus 1 adalah 78,81%. Disiklus kedua, nilai persentase rata-rata kemampuan menulis teks descriptive siswa disetiap siklus. Disamping itu, kegiatan pembelajaran siswa dan guru lebih aktif dan pencapaian siswa dalam menulis teks descriptive meningkat. Brainstorming membuat siswa lebih mudah untuk menyampaikan ide mereka yang ada didalam pikiran. Mereka dapat menjabarkan ide mereka dengan bebas ketika mereka mendiskusikan topic. Penulis dapat menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan brainstorming dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa kelas delapan MTs NU Mafatihul Ulum Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014 dalam membuat teks descriptive.
